Avignon, 45kms away, ringed with its medieval wall, is a very animated city. There is of course the bridge made famous by the song, and the Palace of the Popes.

A bit farther are the town of Orange with its Roman theater and triumphal arch, the Camargue Rhone river delta with its wild horses.

Arles and its memories of Van Gogh, the Luberon region, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Saint Remy de Provence and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue with its antiques markets.
